Six short duets for viola and piano.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

These are the last pieces I wrote without key changes.  They are fairly short so I bundled them together and pretended that this was equivalent.

As always, comments are welcome.

I am not a keyboard player, so  pointers in this direction would be appreciated.

Hello @OpusDopus!

Do you play the viola?  I personally don't so I am not too sure whether the double stops you have written (at least near the beginning part that I happened to listen to) are practical.  If you don't, then it might serve you to check with a viola player to verify that they are.

Musically, this is really random and haphazard.  There is hardly any recognizable theme here (at least for me, but keep in mind that I only listened to the first couple of minutes of your piece).  The score is filled with random scalar patterns that wander up and down the keyboard without any rhyme or reason for their existence.  I'll urge you to study more different chord progressions and functions of different chords in a key.  And also to look at your favorite melodies and study and try to understand what makes them memorable and attractive to you.

Finally just a note:  when you have multiple pieces in a set such as this, please post them as separate files so that listeners can easily skip between movements.  It would be much easier for more people to review your music this way.  Thanks for sharing!
