Fox: World War Two Symphony #1 - 3. Barbarossa

Featured Replies

Barbarossa is the third movement of this World War Two-themed symphony about Nazi Germany's ill-fated campaign to extend its Blitzkrieg into Russia in 1941, which subsequently opened the door for the Allies to fight the German advance on two fronts. Barbarossa ultimately failed due to the Red Army's resolve to fight and Russia's vast territory was too great to conquer.

Please let me know what you think about this piece that was composed and sequenced entirely on the Roland FA-06 Workstation and recorded on the Tascam SD-24. I did some light processing with Audacity.

Hello @DFox.

I think I've reviewed other movements of this symphony before.  How many movements in total are you planning to have?  I think you accomplish your target vibe with this piece.  I enjoyed reading the Wikipedia article about "Operation Barbarossa" and this music was the perfect background for it.  I could totally imagine a World War II film using this music or an old WW2 newsreel about the strategic war operations across Europe and Asia.

The only thing that I think is the weakness of the way you conceived of this piece is that because you wrote it at your keyboard it is not as fully orchestrated as it could be.  If you printed out the midi data and orchestrated it more fully it would be even more effective.  Thanks for sharing!

Thanks PeterthePapercomPoser for reviewing my piece. This is the third movement of a planned six total. I appreciate the feedback about printing out the midi data.
