bhelloworld420 Posted October 9 Posted October 9 (edited) See the attached scores. I wrote two part 1st species counterpoint to a cantus firmus. I wrote one part above and below the cantus firmus for each exercise, note that they are not 3 parts but they are separate 2 parts, I did this to save space. I also included different motifs from the cantus firmus and imitated them in the other parts as shown in the square brackets. I added the intervals between the counterpoint and the cantus firmus Feedback will be greatly appreciated Edited October 9 by bhelloworld420 Quote
Fermata Posted October 11 Posted October 11 I've checked the first page and the last four exercises, see the attachment below. There aren't really any serious technical problems, though. If something is not entirely clear, feel free to ask. PDF cp 1 Quote

PDF cp Thank you so much for the feedback, I'm just not clear about the octaves, like what are wrong with them, as I approached them through contrary motion, and also what is battuta octave? Quote
Fermata Posted October 11 Posted October 11 Using octaves (or unisons) in 2-part counterpoint give very incomplete harmonies that's why they're not used except for the 1st and last measures. A battuta occurs when you approach an octave in contrary motion from an interval larger than an octave - it has been considered unelegant compared to approaching octaves from the "inside". 1 Quote
