Aiwendil
I just finished this Classical-style clarinet quartet after working on it on and off for the past month. Pretty pleased with it at the moment, though I'm sure the glow will wear off. I'd appreciate any comments or criticisms on it - or on any of the movements, if you don't want to listen to the whole thing. The whole piece is about 22 minutes long. PeterthePapercomPoser
Hi @Aiwendil! I've listened to the whole thing from beginning to end when you first posted it. I like it and it's very good classical-styled music! What disappoints me about the rendition (just the output of NotePerformer) is that the Clarinet is often buried underneath the rest of the strings. The Clarinet is the solo instrument and should be in high-relief in comparison to the other instruments! When writing for a solo instrument, always try to differentiate the dynamics between the soloist and the ensemble by one dynamic level. So if the ensemble is a forte, then the soloist should be at fortissimo. That would greatly improve my enjoyment of the piece, as sometimes I literally just can't hear the details of what the Clarinet is playing. (Although of course, if the ensemble and soloist change roles where the soloist takes the accompanying role then reverse the dynamic roles as well.) Thanks for sharing! Aiwendil
Thanks for listening! I know what you mean about the NotePerformer output. I had to fiddle with the volume of the clarinet vs. the strings just to get it to sound like this, and there are still places where the clarinet gets too buried. I probably should have done more to mark the clarinet dynamics up.
