Hello @MantisToboggan and welcome to the forum!

Despite being quite dissonant, this piece still has a clear tonal center to me.  A tonal center which you seem to subvert by ending on a different chord.  I like how you pass around the motif from really high violins to lower cellos.  It's the presence of this recurring motif that makes the piece tonal despite the dissonance.  This reminds me a bit of Mahler - his Symphony 10 Adagio especially.  I've always thought of that piece as having been written on another planet LoL.  Wow - you end the piece on a bvi which still sounds pretty conclusive if you ask me.  Thanks for sharing!

Hey, thanks a lot for your analysis! It's amazing that you can pick up on these things! I've also listened to a lot of Mahler (favorite being the 4th movement of his 9th) and I even have the scores of all of his symphonies in my bookshelf. I used to read these in the breaks between classes at university.

Very cool music. It's dark, cold, ethereal, and very reminiscent of your description. I really like the thin orchestration, the focus on the extreme lows and highs.

Welcome to the forum! You should post more here, I dig your style.
