If it hasn't been made clear already, I like to emphasize on depicting the more intense emotions we feel throughout our lives. This piece is no different. I've written this piece in celebration of the lives of those that we have had to grieve throughout our time on this earth, whom we've had the misfortune of out-living. It features a somber chord progression, using a simple melody with some intricacies throughout to help express the turmoil, and unpredictable nature of the human grieving process.

Let me know what you all think 🙂

I feel your sadness. The opening C minor theme is fxxingly great and emotional. The E flat major cello theme is no less either. It's contemplative and consolating but no less sad. The whole piece I am like listening to a river stream with sadness lightly flowing. The harmony, instrumentation and texture are maybe simple, but it is because of its simplicity make this so touching. The modulation to F minor makes the music more reflective for me. The picardy 3rd is nice as well to give some hope.

Interesting the main theme here (Eb-D-C-G) shares the same motive I once have in my C minor Clarinet Quintet!

Thx for sharing this lovely piece!

Oh, man, it seems great minds must think alike! Im 2-for-2 with similarities on your pieces! I haven't seen much of your work, so that's pretty cool that it ended up that way.

But Henry, you speak like a poet, sir. I appreciate your imaginative mind and description of my pieces of music, when warranted. My intentions are always to create imagery for listeners, and it seems I've been doing a fairly good job of that so far.

And you hit the nail on the head, pointing out the simplistic nature of the piece. That was the intent, while still featuring moments of complexity from time to time to keep it interesting, and to instill the emotions I went for. Also, thank you for noticing the use of the Picardy 3rd. I haven't put that into practice before, and was excited to do so 😅 I'm glad it also was able to fit within the verse chord progressions, as well as having it's traditional use as the last chord of the piece. I wanted to detach the ending, using the slow tempo, solo piano, with the 1-note melody and harmony to keep it extra simple and distant, leaving room for interpretation and processing of the "story" being shared throughout the whole piece. More of a "breather" if you will for the listener.

I'm glad I could bring excitement to your passion today!
