Quite a discovery, isn't it? :)

I've sung them all, with great joy in my heart...some of them many times. The Requiem has a very special emotional effect on me. At my church, we sing his motet Ubi caritas on Maundy Thursday every year as a matter of course...the service wouldn't be the same without it. It is truly amazing how lush and rich his harmonic treatments of plainsong are.

sorry to bring up an old thread!

I absoloutely adore Duruflé's works. I was told by a friend that the Duruflé was very ciritcal of his own compositions, and many of them he destroyed (burned them) because he thought them unfit. This makes me so sad... to think of what we are missing out on!

The Requiem is so divine.... especially the "Domine Jesu Christe".

I'm not too familiar with Durufle's works, but I do his Requiem. I had the chance to perform it in college. At first I wasn't sure what I thought of it. But then I totally understood the piece and has become a piece that I really enjoy! I do have a lot of favorite moments in the requiem, but my most fav is Pie Jesu. :P

I do like all the Baritone Solo's as well.

My aunt is an elementary school music teacher. She made it known she wants the In Paradisum from Durufle's Requiem played at her funeral. She has impeccable taste I think, now that I've heard part of it. It's so beautiful.
