Will Kirk Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Gotta love the man, at least I do :P One of favorite vids of him playing YouTube - Perlman in Russia-Bazzini An here's something some of the elder members might like (and by elder I mean J. Lee :D ) No offense Lee! YouTube - Wieniaswky Concerto no2 - Young Itzhak Perlman what do you all think of the man? Quote
Alex_Murphy Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 That's the first time I have ever seen him, though a lot of the violin music I have downloaded is usually by him (not a big collection) I do have a CD of Paganini's caprices, I've only watched the first 10 seconds of the video but am already impressed. Thanks for the post. Quote

I remember seeing him give an interview with Mike Wallace on "60 Minutes" some years ago, and at some point during the interview Mike Wallace asked him, what he thought made the Jewish school of Violinists such as Issac Stern, Pinchas Zukermann, and himself so great(adlibing wallace's question somewhat) and Itzhak smiled and said, wigging his pinky finger, " its due to circumcision on our pinkies" I was surprised the Censors at CBS let that one fly through. Alex_Murphy Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 At 2:02 till 2:16ish, how does he do that effect, it comes again just before the end, he is bowing yet it sounds plucked. What is this effect? A violinist told me it was left hand pizzicato but she didn't know how to notate it? Is she right? and also how is it notated? Quote

If it is indeed left hand pizzicato, it is notated with a + where a staccato mark would normally be. Quote
PraeludiumUndFuge Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 My favorite modern violinist is Henryk Szeryng, also a Jew. But Perlman is very good, probably the best of the current generation. Quote

It just looks like it because of the camera angle, it is left hand pizzicati. Quote
violinfiddler Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Perlman is without a doubt one of best vioinists alive. Well, at least he's my favorite(which means nothing). Quote
