Transposition

Featured Replies

I have recently been propositioned to transcribe and transpose a solo for Double Bass and piano. He gave me an edition to read from, and I transcribed it into Finale and transposed it down a step. He offered to pay me for my services, but I don't know what to charge. I will post the transcription here for a backround of the work needed to work on this piece. It took me between 2 and 3 hours to finish.

Finale 2006 - [Elegy in C].pdf

Ok mate.

The score is 3 pages.

THe hours are 3

Transposition one semitone down (or step) is 5 minutes work in Finale at most (including the spell checking for 3 pages). copying that is as you said 3 hours.

It doesn't seem nightmarely (what a word) difficult. It does seem tricky, but then again you did it in three hours.

Since he is a student, I would suggest 100$ (or 90$ 3x30$). Do decide what your hourly rate is.

I can't really help you, but for example as a 2nd year PhD student I'm teaching in the college composition, and I'm getting 41$ per hour. A worker in a super market must get something around 7$ per hour? A little less maybe? :S Your work is much "greater" (with all due respect to everyone working anywhere), than a tilt clerk... So it's above 7$. And above all it's one off. so it can't be too low. If it was 50 hours you spent, then you could make a discount, but for three??? Then again you would like him to ask you to do it again, wouldn't you?

I do think that here in the UK 50

Yeah, charge him. That'll teach him to do it himself next time! I mean - what does it take?

M

charge him $300

Trout:

Based on what? Can you explain a little better, your rationalised way of calculating the 300$?
