lv2compose Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 I have just been given a small commission for a compostition for Soprano Voice. Any suggestions on where I might find possible lyrics to use? This is my first attempt at a serious vocal work and am just not sure where to get text....i am definately not a lyricist!;) Thanks in Advance Quote
Alex Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 You could try finding some latin text from hymns and such. Maybe the latin requiem. You should PM W.E. Sapphire. He/she's a librettist. You could also Find a poem or some text from an old midieval book. Quote
Dunael Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 If you want to try french, I got lyrics that I wrote... I can tell you where the accents are if you don't speak french. :D But you can also go see in your local library and search through poets and find one that the themes he writes about interests you. Guest Aleximo Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 i say just copy some lyrics from a classical mass, the copyright has long expired so your OK! Quote
Dunael Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Any poems or litterature dating before 1950 or such are of the public 'domaine' (don't know how to say it). But anyway, you just have to ask to the editor or the poet to get the rights to use a text. Rare are those who will refuse even though you have to sacrifice 50% (might be varying in different countries) of the incomes if there is any... excluding of course the commission incomes !... this belongs to the composer.
