SHEKHAR Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 One day I found a site that sells Cartoons. The cartoons are on display, but have watermarks stamped on them. Only if you buy you get the unstamped version. Can YCF open a sub-forum/ site where members' finished works are hosted for sale ? Visitors can listen a part of it only. They can download the work/s in full only if they pay a certain amount. Sounds crazy ? Then ignore it as a stupid idea from a loud thinking optimist:( Quote
yoyodog Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Very good idea! especially if we set low prices, that may attract many buyers, or advertisers. The key for internet business is usually to capitalise on volume. Quote
SHEKHAR Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 Right - one positive voice means there are many to come! I know, as well as you, that the music "industry", just like any other industry, just means business. The men controlling this business are the last persons to encourage new composers and new music. It is well known how big labels like SONY etc. exploit musicians in the name of signing them with the company. I have a lot of songs written and composed by me (not English, but Bengali) that I plan to record myself in my PC and market them in future myself. This is an alternative that many musicians are opting for everywhere. But money is the problem! Quote
CaltechViolist Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 The prices would have to be very low for the most part - most members simply aren't producing music that people would pay money to hear. Quote
Mark Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I agree with Chris, Andrew and Nico here; even if there was a low price, a lot of people don't like the hassle of pay downloading songs. Something that may be useful is a way of streaming them without download maybe on the wiki, then you could put a link to you're personal website where they can be purchased. Perhaps a member could use the rest of their allocated space to upload mp3s or maybe there is a way to link an uploaded mp3 to a player type thing without showing the listener where it can be downloaded, i know nothing about this ubject so I'm not sure if it can be done or not, hopefully someone here will know...?
