coleporter Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 What do you think of these sketches of Stravinsky's? I find them quite interesting: Quote
Guest QcCowboy Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I find the Webern one funny... it can be interpreted in two different ways depending on whether you are starting at the outside or the inside of the spiral. come to think of it, the "new serialists" one is pretty funny too Quote
montpellier Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Huh, at least we now know how Stravinsky came up with the Rite of Spring.... Join the dots. Quote
Mike Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 They are indeed very interesting, these sketches. I'm willing to bet a lot of people form a mental picture of a piece after they've heard it, so it's nice to be able to compare what you think to what Stravinsky thought. The top row, I totally agree with. The bottom row, I can make less sense of, though Stravinsky's sketch of his own music actually seems spot on. Quote

Same thing for the "new serialists"... expanding on the original serial material but still managing to paint themselves back into a corner. Quote
