AustinS Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Does anyone know the name of the font that some of the older pieces of music use. Like the font on top of the Nutcracker suite and (at least the band version) An Outdoor Overture. Here is a picture of the first thing I found in my folder with it. Quote
EldKatt Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 You could try checking out Identifont. It asks you a bunch of questions about what the font looks like, and tries to identify it. It can work pretty well if you're lucky (and have a rather large corpus of text to look at!). Or it won't work at all. My results from running through it quickly with the image you provided: click. You'll probably get far better results by running it yourself, though. Quote
William K. Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Well, this font kinda looks like it. I have been wondering the same question for a while and when I did the search thing for it, I got Parma Typewriter NB. If you get any closer please let me know! Thanks! :happytears: Quote
robinjessome Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 just curious....why do you guys need this exact font? Quote
William K. Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 just curious....why do you guys need this exact font? lol. As for me, I'm kinda a "everything needs to look proffesional" type of person. My sure, the music needs to be good, but I also want to make the score look good too! :) I dont want my scores to look like a piece of crap.... I'd much rather have them looking nice. ;) I always put the music first, though. If the music isn't good, what's the point of fixing up the score? Quote

Make your scores look as good as possible, no need to go overboard though. One person out of a hundred will notice that this font is different than the original. I sure as hell can't. ... Quote
William K. Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Look at it this way: Some people can tell the difference between when the hear Mozart and when they hear Haydn. Some of the people of the some that can tell the difference care about that difference. If Mozart was the original font and the one you showed us was Haydn, you obviously don't care enough to notice the difference between Mozart and Haydn. Quote
Marius Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 ...maybe it's something as mundane as him wanting to replicate the styling of older scores *shrugs* Quote
robinjessome Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 ...you obviously don't care enough to notice the difference between Mozart and Haydn. Yeah, that's accurate... :innocent: ANYWAY....by all means, track down your font - In my opinion, the one offered by Eldkatt is more than similar enough to replicate the stylings of older scores. But, I don't really care, and don't need to spill more ink on this. ....replicate away! Quote
William K. Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Yeah, that's accurate... hahahaha. no, thats not what I meant. I was just speaking in the terms of what I said before. I was just inserting "mozart" for the first font and "haydn" for the second. I didn't actually mean that you dont like listening to Mozart more than Haydn or the other way around. *breathes* ok, sorry about the misunderstanding. :innocent: Quote

Nice isn't objective, though. To me, a score that looks like the image you posted makes me think of a late 19th century edition with a bunch of "revisions" to the original text that some guy thought made sense but in actuality are completely foreign to the style of, in this case, H Quote
