manossg Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 The Schnittke piano concerto...simply orgasmic and haunted! Quote
onearmedbandit Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Tchakovsky's violin concerto is the best (i.e. my favourite) that I've heard so far ;) Quote
gershwinou Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 for me no doubt: Ravel, concerto en Sol next Gershwin, concerto in F next Brahms violin concerto Quote
onearmedbandit Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 By the way sorry if this is slightly off topic but can Beethoven's Choral Fantasy count as a concerto? Quote
Guest QcCowboy Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 By the way sorry if this is slightly off topic but can Beethoven's Choral Fantasy count as a concerto? I'd say it was more a preparatory sketch for the 9th symphony. Quote
Guest QcCowboy Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 well, since I dislike "best of" threads, I'll include another choice as a "favorite" concerto: Henri Dutilleux - Concerto for cello On the subject of cello concerti, I also particularly love the Barber cello concerto, and the Schostakowitch concerti. I'm trying to remember another one.. and for the life of me I can't remember... is it the Delius? or Elgar? Which one of those two wrote a beautiful cello concerto? God help me if both did! I'll never find out then!!!! Quote
Daniel Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Well Elgar certainly wrote a beautiful cello concerto. Not sure whether or not Delius did. Quote
Guest CreationArtist Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 If we had to agree on the "most perfect" Mozart piano concerto which would it be? 23? 24? 25? Quote
Guest QcCowboy Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 If we had to agree on the "most perfect" Mozart piano concerto which would it be? 23? 24? 25? I don't know, I love the middle movement of the A major concerto (number 23), but love the outer movements of the D minor (number 20). I would love to make a "complete" concerto out of those two. rolifer Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Prokofiev's 3rd for piano. My favorite of all time. The man was a genius. Quote
robtheman5824 Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 I haven't heard enough concertos, but I'm in love with Barber's Violin concerto. The second movement makes the whole piece. Quote
Guest QcCowboy Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 What makes 20 incomplete? I didn't say number 20 was incomplete.. I said I'd love to make one whole concerto out of the 1st and last of 20, with the middle of 23. Quote
Guest CreationArtist Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Oh haha.. nahh.. 23 is perfect and it was also very, very close to Mozart.. he loved it. I'm not sure if 24 and 25 are better.. probably not. Quote

Guest QcCowboy Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 do you mean this one ? oh god yes. how silly of me.. I'm wiping tears from my eyes just from hearing that simulation of it. I think that's such an incredible piece of music. Quote

I prefer the outer movements of 24 and 25, but 23 has the better middle movement. #25 has a special significance for me, as it was the piece that "got me into" classical music. It's also rather unique in flavour.. the first two movements anyway. Quote
Abadoss Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Personally, I enjoy Shostakovich's 2nd Piano Concerto. Quote

Monkeysinfezzes Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 I just can't stop listening to Gershwin's Concerto in F. It is just such sumptuous ear candy! Quote
teccomin Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Schumann piano concerto #1 . makes me feel like im in heaven Quote
goodridge_winners Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Im still going to have to say I am utterly impressed by Rachmaninov's 3rd Concerto, the 2nd concerto is next to best...in fact, no. They share EQUAL 1st place. I just like the 3rd concerto's Cadenza (the ossia version). Quote
Gavin Gorrick Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 *doesn't read thread* John Adams' Violin Concerto is quite good. Some of it sounds like Berg, though, but I'll ignore that. Quote
