The Great River (2:43) 16. Amon Hen (5:02) 17. The Breaking of the Fellowship (7:21) 18. "May It Be" (Enya) (4:16) The reviews will be in this format: Track 8 - Sassas' ThemeAbout a minute through, it starts getting interesting, when a slow melody-ish line comes in for a bit, then stops, and reappears around 1:40. After that, violins come in and actually play a melody. Despite being slim on melody, this song is actually great to listen to. The instrumentation is very well done, and the song sets up a mood so well. (8.5/10)[/b] I suppose y'all got that? If not, here is a brief explaination; The forum members are supposed to do a track-by-track review of the ''The Lord Of The Rings'' soundtrack, the tracks will be reviewed in the order of the tracklist. It's much less confusing that way. If we get reeeallly lucky, the reviews will be posted on the main site!! (Even though that's just a dream of mine..) PS: If you need an mp3 of a track, please PM wolf_88. Also, if you still don't understand this, feel free to ask all the questions you can think of here. Don't clutter this thread with questions, it will be used for reviews only. Quote
Guest Anders Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Track 1. The Prophecy (3:54) This track was Composed by Howard Shore, performed by New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Conducted by Howard Shore, and Wow! It is such an overwhelming track! It literally has it all! Carefully crafted harmonic progressions, thought-provoking ethereal lyrics and of course; masterfull orchestral writing; both incredibly bombastic and and very soothing at the same time. Overall, it is an impressive track, and a good start to the album. (10/10) Quote
crazy voyager Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 2. Concerning the hobbits (2:55) this is a soft track, pizz strings and bright solos. I'd put this track in to the category "beutiful for a sunny day and a walk". The orchestration as I can hear it is quite thin, but shores composition ios brilliant. Using a lot of strings and wind in the background he has created a piece that is lovley to listen to, and the solos in combination with the pizz strings is wonderful, a real masterpiece. Listening to this is a real joy, a good continuation to the prophecy. (10/10) Quote
Guest Anders Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 That's really nice crazy voyager! Thanks for taking the time! :P Track 3. The Shadow Of The Past This track is nothing much, it builds up a lot of tension and sounds extremely majestic at times, but that's all, really. My guess is that this worked quite well in the context of the film, but it lacks what would have made it a good track for listening purposes (An enjoyable melody, for example) (5.5/10) Quote
crazy voyager Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 heh, I love the LOTR soundtrack :P so I enjoy taking time to this, and why's mine 1 sec shorter then yours   Track 4. the treason of isengaard 4:00 The start of this iece is very intresting, I noticed first today that you need a good bass to hear the low low precrussion in the background. The piece as full is though, not as good. The first part is good, but then it turns into a choir/precrussion/brass work. And it turns definelty movie like, with the pictures, sure it's probably good. But wihout, nope. I'm not rating this high, and it has no way of standing up towards the perfection we had in the begining (the prophecy and concerning the hobbits). (3.5/10) Quote
Wolf_88 Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 7. A knife in the Dark A perfectly spooky tone, the choir never looses the amazing touch, although a though the scary part was too short. The main theme in the second part is always incredible, and the gentil solo voice is amazing. The atmosphere folows beautifuly during the whole piece and i thought i was a briliant idea to add the chain effect in the back! 8.5/10 4. The treason of Isengard The atmoshere isn't much in the first part, but the melodies are still neat. The main melody, and sounds great but doesn't add to the overal too much. Same goes for the the short "main melodies" passovers in the middle. But the last part with the choir was briliant. Atmosphere here is excelent, unlike in the previous part. 6/10 Quote
crazy voyager Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 18. May it be (with Enya) 3:31 This track is just, beutiful. Enyas singing makes it even better. The text is partly in elfish, but that doesn't matter really, it fits so good with the comp. A soft ending to the soundtrack, and a perfect ending. The soft voice, the strings and the harp makes it just perfect. This is why you keep listening to the end (10+/10) and I'll copy in the text here too. Verse1 May it be an eve-ning star shines down up - - on ----- you. May it be when dark- ness falls. Your hearth_____ will be true- You___walk a lone-ly road. Oh! How far you_ are from home.
