sivvus Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Does anyone here play the Chanter, or know where I can get a decent soundfont of one? I'm buying one in the next few weeks but it'll take me longer to learn it than it will to mix it... On that subject, what traditional/folk/medieval instruments do you guys enjoy listening to? Quote
Keerakh Kal Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 For those of us who don't know many ancient/ethnic instruments, what is a Chanter? ~Kal Quote
EldKatt Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Chanter, unless I've missed something, refers to the pipe on a bagpipe that you actually play (i.e. it has finger holes), as opposed to drone pipes. There are lots and lots of very different kinds of bagpipe, so the first question, inevitably, is: what sort of chanter? Quote
robinjessome Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 ...what traditional/folk/medieval instruments do you guys enjoy listening to? Certainly not the bagpipes/chanter. Sorry ;) Though I have used them in a free improv setting - you can get some seriously heinous and violent sounds from them! So....I rephrase my statement. I enjoy the bagpipes, only when not played properly. ... Quote

They don't have to be a part of the bagpipe, though... sort of like a guitar with an amplifier. So they often seem like reeded recorders more than anything. Quote
Mark Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 god, we were forced to listen to solo bagpipes in music, it was horrible :P Quote
hopper Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 If there were any bagpipe lovers out there, they were just scared away by this thread. There's a bagpipe player at my school who is actually quite good and belongs to a world-class piping band. He makes a big point to tell everyone about how people get cut from the band for missing one grace note, so nobody really likes him. It's a shame; he's quite talented. Quote
