I saw in TV some video footage from a robot conducting a whole orchestra, playing a Beethoven's symphony... I was absolutely stunned by the movements of the robot, and by how it kept its balance and everything, it was absolutely amazing (even the musicians were smiling while watching their tiny conductor conducting the piece). This, if course, brings issues similar to the other thread, of the composing computer.

But it's obvious that despite all the algorithms or calculations a robot can do, it will never "understand" the piece. It can only be taught what movements it shall do in a specific time interval and with constant pace, and that's all, while a conductor will never conduct the same piece the same, ever.

Anyway, it's interesting. Here's an article I found, and it has links to video footage from the conducting, as well as from other robots, dancing robots etc.

Enjoy! :)
