Guest CreationArtist Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Are they worth it? Bernstein's Studio - Norton Lectures - The Unanswered Question What are your thoughts? Quote
Marius Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 If you're into lectures then sure they're worth it. What are you seeking to learn from them? Quote
Guest CreationArtist Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I'm very interested in what Bernstein has to say about music history, forms, structure, and just anything to do with music in general. The lectures seem extremely "edutaining," for the lack of a better word. Quote
Guest CreationArtist Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Since there's only that one hour long video, I'm definitely going to buy it on DVD. I watched that entire thing and I love it. Quote
aerlinndan Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 YES. The Norton lectures are brilliant. I swear by them, even though I disagree with parts of them. (Is that possible?) And if nothing else, Bernstein's matchless musicianship will inspire you to work really, really hard. But in all seriousness, the lectures are very well-conceived, if not completely scientifically executed. These lectures are all about a comparison between language and music. And the parallels are really, really compelling. After watching them you will have a new take on listening to, playing, and composing music. So don't watch them unless you're ready to rethink your fundamental ideas on music (then again, as artists, we should all be ready to do this all the time). Quote
