Mark Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 This is my first attempt at using a secondary dominant chord, V of II in this case. It's also my first attempt at realising Figured Basslines, as in this case i wrote the progression, then couldn't be bothered writing it out in SATB so i thought I'd try this. Please have a look and point out any mistakes. And if you want a midi just ask  Thanks, Mark here it is EDIT: latest amendation down a bit Quote
Daniel Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Your use of the secondary dominant was not too bad, but your figures weren't quite right. Things I personally don't like: What is basically a parallel 8ve in the first bar (between the C and B) Direct 8ve at end of first bar and start of second. I don't like the 2nd inversion on the a chord either. The figuring on the second beat of measure 3 should be 42 (A 7th in last inversion), or at least instead of writing NC, you draw a line under the note to indicate the same figuring carries on (same for the other NC). There are a couple of other parallel octaves, but I know you were doing this for secondary dominants, and your use of the A was fine. Although personally I feel you spent too much time with a and e chords, and the A wasn't as well prepared as it could have been. Work on trying to include secondary dominants as smoothly as you can.
