HymnSpace Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Hi, I was thinking about how it might be quite a nice idea for people to submit short works for others to analysise. I mean, it might be quite nice for somebody to collate a list of those interested in doing it and then, pairing them up so that they would send their score directly to the other person to analyse and then resubmit here on the forum? Now, it doesn't need to be a really complex analysis, really what you are able to give and contribute but its always nice to have an analysis that is not your own about your music, to see how people respond to the construction of your music, and if they find the things that you intended etc. Just a thought really, may not take off, but would be interested for opinions etc Cheers Quote
Mark Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 sounds interesting enough, stick my name down Quote
minhman13 Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 I love the idea. Great way for new members to have their compositions review. I'm in! Quote
Mike Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Very similar to the "Lessons" idea we already have in the works. Stay tuned for that. Quote
HymnSpace Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 @canzano, I'm not talking about reviewing peoples work, I am talking about an actual analysis, and I don't think everybody knows who's who. I think its actually more of a chance for people to network and meet each other, not just those who are 'moderators'. Quote
JRSB Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 I actually need someone to review my work. I'm still thinking wether its worth getting a composition teacher. What do you guys think? Quote
HymnSpace Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 I think its a good idea to have a composition tutor, I have one and she has taught me so much but less about composing and more about the technicalities, making your scores look the best they can and everything it takes to be a top level musician which I think is actually more important. I think as a composer, it's either there or not. As for this topic, I am not talking about reviewing music, as this is what is happening anyways, but giving a detailed analysis of others music, I mean the nuts and bolts of how the piece is constructed etc Quote

Unfortunately, you get people always ready to take from a community without putting anything back. Recently I gave just over an hour (that would have cost a student around Quote
JRSB Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I'm not complaining, just suggesting that people acknowledge the help they get. Volunteered help is rarely valued so I wouldn't consider this poster again. Awww don't be so down. I actually troll here sometimes and look at the critisism people give, it helps in looking at my own pieces. So its not really all to waste even though you have received no acknowledgement.... Quote
HymnSpace Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 I suppose I was thinking of it as being a two way process, whereby two people interested in the project hook up and exchange scores both ways and then report back to each other, and then via this forum, instead of someone just volunteering to look at somebody else's score without them doing anything in return. You're right though, it may not work, and maybe it should only be open to those who have contributed openly to this forum. Just an idea but it may not work out. All the best Ryan Quote
montpellier Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Well, you rule these forums with a greater strength than the administrators and mods added together, so you SHOULD know! You also have time - plenty of time. Take advantage of it while it lasts!!! For some of us who came here to get help and hoped to give some but we're no longer students, time is limited. But yes, you can get to know enough. I have two lists.... :) :P And now I have to work.... Quote
HymnSpace Posted February 6, 2007 Author Posted February 6, 2007 @ canzano, point taken, but It would be nice to think that there was no hierarchy in this kind of project. Sure, there are people here with lots to say and who are regulars and who have lots of great advice to give, but it still doesn't mean that those who have just started posting and getting involved cant start up something like this. I think it should be open to all and not closed off in any way. I think if people are interested then it will happen. If not, then it wont, but at least the idea is out there in the public domain! ps, I'm a student, final year, and time as a composer is gradually being eaten up so I can understand that when you are younger you should savour those moments because they will change!
