Hey I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a few good textbooks about basic music theory (I think I need to go back to class on that one), classic opera, jazz, big band blues and symphony. I plan to go to the bookstore tommorow so any reccomendations would help.

I've been thinking of getting that Robin, definitely worth it? I'm also planning on getting Jody Fisher's series for learning jazz guitar, I've seen a few lessons online with him and he guy is amazing.

The Levine book is invaluable for learning and understanding the workings of jazz theory.

...You should, nay must purchase that book.

I don't have it anymore....I used it so much it fell apart.

I think the bible of music theory is "Tonal Harmony in Concept and Practice" by Allen Forte... Anyone disagree?

Where can I find this book? I'm looking for it for purchase or borrow

A 10 year old thread! Oh wow!

My favourite theory book is Harmonielehre from Diether de la Motte. I like the historical approach.
