montpellier Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Of interest to the UK members. It seems that our big brother government has run out of useful work to spend our tax on because they're sitting around scratching their bums looking for things to do. You don't hear or see the half on the media. This one is about making it compulsory to get a license if a group of more than two musicians is playing together in a public place. Presumably this includes churches, halls, pavements, wherever. So if you're ever likely to be performing anywhere public, please sign this petition. Don't let them get away with this or it'll be ANY musician playing publicly before you know it. Ask your musical or socially aware mates to sign it. Sad to say, you have to be a UK citizen to sign.... We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to recognise that music and dance should not be restricted by burdensome licensing regulations. free country??? Bah! a tout a l'heure, Montpellier. Daniel Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Signed. The description was a little vague though - hopefully it will be clear what the petition is referring to. Quote
jujimufu Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 What the hell's wrong with the UK lately... They also banned public and documentary photography without license :) What the gently caress!!! Quote
montpellier Posted February 27, 2007 Author Posted February 27, 2007 What the hell's wrong with the UK lately...They also banned public and documentary photography without license :) What the gently caress!!! Bloody Blair and Reed, that's what. Oh, there can be unlicensed public photography...as long as they're watching you. When 1984 came, people laughed that Orwell's prophecy hadn't come true. But it had, oh boy. It had - in 1984, when parliament issued a white paper called something like "instituting common data standards across all departments" and, for the first time, using your National Insurance number as a prime key to your tax records on the I.R system computerised that same year. Then your driving license. From then, they could put together a record of most of your life. Add to that the new ID cards...whereon they can pattern-recognise you on any of their CCTV pics you happen to be in... and the pressure for a cashless society... so they'll be able to tell what you're spending your money on, when and where....or find out where you are when they're looking for you. The argument that "if you've nothing to hide, you've nothing to worry about" is stupid. There'll come a regime soon and what you don't need to hide today may well be something you desperately want to hide then and...uh-oh, too late... Quote
Will Kirk Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 How on earth do they think this will benefit anyone? It's only going to serve to annoy the musicians and make a lot of people angry. I don't live in the UK, but if this law gets passed then look for me on the picket lines I say music is a free and wonderful art, and no one has the right to hold it back from the people Quote
zentari Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Good Lord... We're going to England for our band concert... I suppose we'll need licenses to see Handel's grave too by then... (darned british parliament) Quote
bob_the_sane Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Signed. I am really gonna protest about this Quote
Mark Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Michalis: Not a great deal we can do about it. If they want to do something, they will do it. Quote
KSP Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 I wish I could sign, but alas, I'm not a UK citizen. I support your cause, though. And hope you get that terrible law overturned. *Yikes!* Quote
