Dirk Gently Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I'm worried mine won't be up to par with everyone else's... That's no way to be going about a competition ;).....
TheMeaningofLIfe Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I'm worried mine won't be up to par with everyone else's... It doesn't matter, don't worry about it at all. I'm starting mine tonight and I barely even know what a sonata is.;)
Guest Anders Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 A sonata is a name one can assign to any piece that is to be played. There, now you know. :D
Guest Invisionary Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I look forward to hearing some of the entries. I wonder if everyone is going to wait until the last minute to enter? I'm going to wait until the 23rd. :(
zentari Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Thanks all, I suppose I'd better finish the darned thing now... And seriously, sonata really only means "an instrumental piece that is to be played..." Now, "sonata FORM" is a different thing.... which is why they only said free-form sonata.
Guest Invisionary Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Score recommended. Not needed. Ok, I'll just post one then. Weren't we supposed to send you a copy first before we attach the submission in the submissions page?
Guest Invisionary Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 I was thinking and I have a suggestion. Would it be better if all who enter send only a midi file to Jeremiah or Spectrums and they attach all the midi entries in one post by numbers leaving the names secret until the poll vote has ended? Also they could send a nameless score in PDF to go with the entry. For example Entry 1: Sonata in A minor Entry 2: Sonata in E flat major PDF included Entry 3: Sonata in F major etc, etc. And the poll read Vote for which you feel is best! Entry 1 Entry 2 etc, etc. If it was done this way then all entries could be in simple midi form and it would make things alot smoother and interesting in my opinion.
Mark Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 sounds interesting, and doable, but it'll take some organising.
William K. Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 that sounds like a good idea. That way we can eliminate favouritisim.
Guest Invisionary Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 that sounds like a good idea. That way we can eliminate favouritisim. Exactly. And if everyones work would be posted in midi that would make it even more fair, for not everyone can provide nice sounding Mp3's.
Jeremiah Hong Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 That is a good idea. You can send the submissions to me or Spectrums and we'll organize the poll from there.
Guest Invisionary Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 That is a good idea. You can send the submissions to me or Spectrums and we'll organize the poll from there. Cool. They don't let us attach Midi's to private messages anymore, so can we have your two's e-mails? And they all have to be midi and nameless scores right?
Jeremiah Hong Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 You don't need a score; it'd make things too complicated. Besides, we don't need to get all full-scale here. EDIT: My e-mail's currently down...Spectrums will have to do it all himself...if it's not too much trouble.
Guest Invisionary Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 You don't need a score; it'd make things too complicated. After I went and made it all pretty!? :horrified:
Dirk Gently Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I would think scores should be necessary :horrified:...
Jeremiah Hong Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 Umm...go ahead, but I don't think it's neccessary.
Guest Invisionary Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Scores can be a good idea though. Sometimes people in competitions decide to swipe someone else's midi from online and post it as theirs.
Jeremiah Hong Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 Alright, then. Both a score and MIDI file are required.
Guest Invisionary Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Alright, then. Both a score and MIDI file are required. Lol!
Guest Invisionary Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Jeremiah, why not just make a quick yahoo e-mail something like youngcomposers_submissions@yahoo.com?
KSP Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Someone else has already posted their submission in the thread Mike started. Are we still emailing submissions?
Guest Invisionary Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Someone else has already posted their submission in the thread Mike started. Are we still emailing submissions? I would take that as a No. lol I'll probably just post mine tomorrow now. I was going to wait until the 23rd but it's all done.
zentari Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I'm not gonna be able to finish mine in time... sorry everyone, I was really hoping I would be able to work fast enough, but my recently assigned physics circuit project... well... you all know how (not) fun physics is... I'll be here for the next month's contest though.
Guest Invisionary Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 On the last week, a poll will be put up, and you can vote for your favorite submission. What's up? Is this going to be like the first competition I entered here and wasted my time on? :(
