Why dont we set up a public teaching forum?

Cover topics people want to bring up and vote for the. I think this would be way better that way the knowledge is spread throught YC for people to learn not based on person to person if somone has questions they can PM.

I mean come on we all want to be taught what Qccowboy knows right?

Everyone here would benifite from learning things. That way people can compare and contrast knowledge to fit their composing needs.

This is my take on it. I think having large forums on it would be way better.

Spread the icing all over the cake dont just plop it in the middle and hope it moves itself.

There's no paying. No money is going to be asked for.

Okay.. I got confused there for a minute.

I would be very willing to contribute as a teacher for simple theory/harmony, as well as a student (preferences -> arrangement/counterpoint). But my english aren't quite good.

Hey. I'm not sure what is involved but I would like to be a teacher of composition and am happy to help out here. Put me on the list, that is of course if I make it pass the rather daunting screening?

I wouldn't mind being a student.

But a plop of icing is sweeter than thinly spread icing. :)

This is ridicolous.. I propose that all students/teachers need to have a certain number of posts before they can be considered for the position at all.

I'm volunteering to be a student, by the way, and depending on the ''curriculum'' I might teach as well.. Doubtfull though :)

Yes, I agree with Letehn. I mean, shouldn't there be some 'quality' control for being a teacher, shouldn't there be some criteria?

Oh and I'd love to be a student. I'll be needing help with the basics in everything, I'm not saying that I know nothing; I just want good solid ground to stand on.

What about the people who are serious about this and who want to learn but can't simply because their post count isn't high enough? You don't expect me to spam my way through do you?

If have another way to proove you'll be active and actually partake, do tell :)

If that's a rule, think it would be fair if join date compared to post count is taken into consideration, (is the student active?), not to mention how many of those are at least attempts at composition or questions about composition (is the student serious about this?)

I am kinda curious, because I think it should all be public knowledge.

In my opinion much more effective, because everyone who knows anything about the subject can help teach. Anyone who doesnt can listen and ask questions. Very open and alows for multiple teachers.

Ahh but only one person gets a slice of the cake and too much frosting at one time is gross.

Does anyone like this idea? Yes? No? Maybe So?

I'll help as best I can, following subjects (which I suspect have few qualified 'instructors'):

  • various modes of trombonery (technique, jazz performance)
  • jazz theory
  • jazz styles (history/artists)
