Arthur Reglay Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 This is ridicolous.. I propose that all students/teachers need to have a certain number of posts before they can be considered for the position at all. I'm volunteering to be a student, by the way, and depending on the ''curriculum'' I might teach as well.. Doubtfull though :( Although it's pretty logic, the function "number of posts vrs. date" can only determine the activity of the member, not his/her knowledge or composing level (I asked about this long before). Anybody con be a teacher only if he/she consider their knowledge and/or wisdom is high enough to answer to the stundents in a very effective way.
Nightfly Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 I don't have a teaching experience but If anybody will be interested, I don't mind giving some private lessons on composition.
Ceresz Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 I would love to get some lessons from you Nightfly :(
Guest James123 Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 I would definetly be interested in being a student! Have only recently started trying to compose so havn't been a member of this forum for long. I would be interested in learning all genres of composing, film, games, chamber, jazz, etc...To get any guidance on this, escpecially free, I would be very gratefull.
ditzley Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 I would love to be both a student and a teacher, my teaching abilities would be very limited though. I would be a lot more capable of being a student, but I think that everyone can learn something from everyone else, like a teacher learning from a student. Ditzley
Christopher Dunn-Rankin Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 I'd like to be both student and teacher. I'd like to teach things like basic theory and aspects of contemporary music, and I'd like to learn from more experienced folk such as The Nightfly, QCCowboy, and Majesty.
Majesty Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 I'd like to be both student and teacher. I'd like to teach things like basic theory and aspects of contemporary music, and I'd like to learn from more experienced folk such as The Nightfly, QCCowboy, and Majesty. I'm honored that you considered me among you list of more experienced people. I'd be gald to contribute in anyway you feel that I can. Although, from what I can tell on the forum you seem pretty knowledgeable and know what you want as a composer. So, if you are interested in learning anything from me just be direct and let me know what it is and I'll be glad to help.
Mike Posted March 13, 2007 Author Posted March 13, 2007 I've been through this thread and have gathered the names of those who volunteered to teach. The staff will now sift through the list and decide who will make up the final array of teachers. Thanks to all those who have volunteered! It's quite heartening to see just how much knowledge there is floating around YC.
Nightfly Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 So the staff decides who will teach ? I didn't know that, I already gave an assignment for my first student! hahah ! Does staff really need to pick a teacher? I mean, it already works this way.
retron Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 I'm assuming that after the list is up we will be able to have some influence as to who our teacher is, am I correct?
Guest CreationArtist Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 What was the progress in the past couple of weeks in regards to this feature?

Does staff really need to pick a teacher? I mean, it already works this way. We want to ensure that the teachers know what they're talking about. In any case, it's obvious that you do. :P I'm going to close this thread and start a new one for student applications. It'll contain a list of the teachers who were accepted - if you weren't, it's because we don't have confidence in your abilities as a teacher/composer, or that you are a fairly new member and we can't be sure you will stick around.
