Nigel Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 I recommend you give a quick listen to the 2nd and 3rd movements of this symphony (the 1st) though, ..... Hmm.. How do I know what form they are in?:whistling: Quote
J.Br. Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 I'm surprised some of you guys don't like the last movement of the ninth. It sums up the whole symphony! It starts at the very bottom: it is so sad! Despairing, really. Then, gradually, the basses and cellos build up and the rest of the orchestra comes in gradually and wow! Just wow! I also like the way the beginning rejects the other three movements: it's like it's saying, No: this is not the way to lead one's life! We must live in joy and happiness. I admit the movement is a little repetitive but it's brilliant and what he does with the theme is incredible. I recognize that this movement is the kind of music that you either love or detest. I guess I just love it Quote
Guest Anders Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 ..also like the way the beginning rejects the other three movements: it's like it's saying, No: this is not the way to lead one's life! Guest Anders Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I spent the entire weekend burrowed in the sheets for Beethoven's 7th symphony. What a fascinating symphony. :) Might post some notes, an ''analysis'' and perhaps a listening guide later if anyone is interested.. Quote
bob_the_sane Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Yes please:). I haven't got round to listening to that one yet. I'm up to the sixth. Quote
Mark Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Dammit, I need to get hold of recordings of all of these, and the music for them all aswell. Anyone got any links to either of the above that're in the public domain? Quote
Nigel Posted April 25, 2007 Author Posted April 25, 2007 Damn..... My comp just got reformatted.. Now all of his symphonies are gone and I have to re-rip it into my hard disk... Quote
darkwonderer18 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I know this is kind of off topic, since we are all talking about symphonies here, but does anyone know which recording of Missa Solemnis is by far the best? Berstein perhaps? Quote
Ananth Balijepalli Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Wow way to bring up a dead thread. But, since I am a Beethoven Addict, I shall bring new life by saying that Karajan's recordings are NOT horrible. Though, the London Classical Players' recording is the best that I have heard. Each movement is very clear and they use period instruments and actual tempo markings. However, I do prefer the 4th mov of symph 5 a little faster than what they take it as. The strings have a deep, rich sound and the brass have a penetrating, yet majestic sound. The winds are full, but the flute is a little bit bright. You should definitely get this set.! Quote
