chopin Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Just to let everyone know, I have been on top of this, and I am currently trying to strike a deal with a specific provider who I have been in contact with. I am crossing my fingers and I hope they will issue me a license for their software. If not, we may have to get the whole network system specifically designed from scratch, but I am trying to avoid this unless I have no other choice. The current software that I have my eye on is a nearly perfect solution with one ultimate drawback.....its free, but it relies on a third party system to run, sharing information between our site, and their site, in order to help grow both OUR network, and THEIRS. You may be asking, why do we need a standalone product, both sites would be helping each other out, right?? The reason is only because of my lack of trust in others, and I do not feel comfortable promoting another site at the expense of ours. The other company would be in control over the terms of conditions, and could flip the switch at any time. That is why I would rather pay, than to have something free. Ideally, we would need a standalone system, and this is what is causing some delays. Quote
chopin Posted April 8, 2007 Author Posted April 8, 2007 Another update: Vbulletin is coming out with their own social networking product, so I am waiting until their release. I am not sure when it will be released, but it should be no more than a few months. I am monitoring their product thread almost every day. As soon as they release the product, I am going to purchase it. After the social networking is installed and functional, I am going to hire a 3rd party developer to design a music management plugin, which will integrate nicely with the social network. I can safely say that these decisions are final, and it is just a matter of when Vbulletin is going to release their product. Believe me, I am also getting very impatient, and I want to get the ball rolling ASAP, but I believe that this product from VBulletin will be the best solution. Quote
Mike Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 A few other things: Our attempts to install an integrated, standalone webmail solution in lieu of Gmail failed - however, the software in question is currently in the beta (testing) stage, so this is to be expected. We had a good go at troubleshooting the problem, but to no avail. I'm not sure what's going to happen with the Gmail solution on the back of this, but it's not my responsibility either, so if you have any queries you will need to direct them to chopin. The vBulletin developers have not given a release date for their social networking add-on, so it's impossible to know how long we may have to wait. So don't hold your breath. Just wanted to assure you members that there is a "direction" of sorts, but patience will be required in waiting for the end product to come to fruition. If you have a vision of what YC's potential really is, rest assured I too hold that vision, and I hope that one day it will become a reality. Quote
chopin Posted April 21, 2007 Author Posted April 21, 2007 Yes, a big reason for the delays is because Jelsoft, the company who designed our forum software is already in the process of creating this Social Netoworking project. I could hire a coder to do this, but Jelsoft probably could do this even better, since they know their own software the best. This is why I would rather wait. This all is going to happen, my heart is set on this. Quote
