chopin Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 On Hold for the moment Currently observing a possible fully integrated solution without reliance on Google. Ok, so maybe not a genuine Young Composers email address, but a Gmail address with an @youngcomposers.com extention. Gmail accounts hold up to 2 gigabytes of space, and as of now, YC can issue up to 200 email addresses. Only those who generally contribute positively to YC will be considered for an email address. Anyone can apply for one though, and this is the place to do it. Please apply here: ON HOLD Your login will be here: My Email (there is also tab that says "My Email") Your default pass is will be supplied to you. Please change this as soon as you login to your account!
bob_the_sane Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Oooh, yes please!:) Do I contribute positively? I'll be very good.....:P
Saiming Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Something tells me that I'll be neglected... but could I please have one?
chopin Posted April 2, 2007 Author Posted April 2, 2007 Everyone who has applied, please use the form I just created, after realizing I need 3 bits of information to create accounts. The default password is "music" and you will have to change this when you login. We can use this thread for any questions. After you submit your application, the information will be PM'd to both myself and Mike. We will then decide if you are qualified, and if so, we will create your account and notify you.
Mark Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Question: Is this going to act exactly like a google mail account? With which you can compose emails and recieve them? And when you log into YC will you automatically be logged into your email?
chopin Posted April 2, 2007 Author Posted April 2, 2007 Question: Is this going to act exactly like a google mail account? With which you can compose emails and recieve them? Yes, exactly like a gmail account, except you have the @youngcomposers.com extension instead. Furthermore, everyone on this site who has an account will automatically be added as a contact, I think. And when you log into YC will you automatically be logged into your email? Would be great, but unfortunatly nope.
Mike Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I'd like to take this opportunity to make it clear that I don't personally feel comfortable deciding whether people are "worthy" of receiving an email address. It's far too subjective and grey area-ish. If it were up to me, it'd be done on a first come first served basis. I may therefore leave the decision-making to chopin.
Daniel Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Is there a limited amount of available email addresses?
Mike Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Seems like it: as of now, YC can issue up to 200 email addresses.
Daniel Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Sorry. I hereby forgo the right to criticize anyone for not reading a post. For a day.

Basically, if you have contributed to YC and are a regular member, you should have no problem getting an email address. The reason why I am hesitant to issue email addresses to new members is because of our limitations (as of now) and I would rather see active members get the benefit of an @youngcomposers.com email address. Once our number of email addresses increases (I can always ask Google to raise the number), this limitation will be eliminated. First, let's just see how this even works out.
bob stole my cookie Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 YAY! *hugs admins!!* Thanks for the Sticky pad! :) :D
Marius Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Thanks very much! It's very nice - I'm with Hillary - yay for the sticky pad! :D
Nigel Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Hmm.. I sent in the form. How long will I need to wait? (assuming I get accepted)
Guest Anders Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.Delivery to the following recipients failed. andershegre@youngcomposers.com I can't send mail to it! Does anyone else have this problem?
chopin Posted April 3, 2007 Author Posted April 3, 2007 Oops, there is one more thing I have to do in order to get this to work. You can SEND email, but currently no one can receive email. For now this is useless until I edit some changes in the server. Please sit tight, I doubt I will have any time to do configure this tonight.
