Guest CreationArtist Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Welcome to the Wind Trio Challenge! The winner will be decided through the public poll. There is no specific judging criteria other than which you like better (for your own reasons). Voice leading and counterpoint mistakes as well as any other mistakes of advanced concepts should not be overlooked, but it is suggested that you ignore mistakes if there are only a couple. Scores are not a necessity, which means this is a more casual competition. Meticulous analysis is definitely not necessary. DO NOT VOTE UNTIL ALL UPLOADS ARE IN, WHICH WILL BE AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. A midi will be provided for those that are unable to produce more quality (true) recordings. Those who are able are allowed and encouraged to create an mp3, since we all know how untrue midi makes the overall color of sound. The following is a link to the mp3 of my entry entitled Wind Trio No. 1 for Clarient, Bass Clarinet, and Horn (an odd combination, but it worked well). A midi of this piece has been uploaded to this post (it didn't come out that bad to my suprise, but it does seriously batter the first half). I hope you enjoy it! NOTE: If you are only listening to the midi, I really encourage you to hear the mp3 (not that it sounds much better, because I actually like the midi (EDIT: I redid it and now it sounds crappy [MIDI LEGATO RUINS EVERYTHING, PLEASE IGNORE IT]) as well, but because it's probably much more enjoyable and plesent as a result of the quality reverb). Please listen to both if you can, the midi for the clarity of the tones themselves, and the mp3 for the tone color of the piece as a whole. Wind Trio No. 1 in many keys
Mitchell Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Okay, it's a sax trio. And it sounds like my regular music. And it's for saxophones. Enjoy. 000SAXTRIO!.mid
Guest FPSchubertII Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 here is my piece for Clarinet, Bassoon, and horn. wt3.MID
Guest CreationArtist Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 And we all vote for ourselves.. how pathetic. At least I was honest, :)
jmetzinger Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 All of these were great, but the creationartists was right up my alley. For me, what made his piece awsome was the bass clarinet, I really never here it in trios and it is such a wonderful instrument. In some instances, I would rather use it rather than bassoon! I liked how you filled your piece with many different harmonies while still keeping that classical feel. It is also very entertaining! Great work.
Guest CreationArtist Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 That's very nice of you. It means a lot from someone who wrote such a great dance in the chamber music forum.
Guest Anders Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I'd like to see scores of the other 3 contestants' works, if that's possible.
Guest CreationArtist Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Finale kicks me out every time I try to make a .PDF and when I attempted to upload the .MUS here before it didn't go through. I'm sorry, I wish I could (figuring I just fixed up the score). I wouldn't have been so happy about posting it earlier though, since the score mainly represented me trying to get Finale to play it back correctly or at least decently.
Mitchell Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Anders, I COULD make the shittiest PDF you've EVER seen. But it works.
Mitchell Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Here's mine! It's really bad, but it's all I can make. 000SAXTRIO!.pdf PDF 000SAXTRIO!
Guest Nickthoven Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I voted for Mitchell - his was the most original.
Rafn Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I voted for Mitchell - his was the most original. Ditto. Good job.
Guest CreationArtist Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I don't understand, ..the main theme was copied right from a Romantic composer of whom I don't remember right now, but I'll find out.
Marius Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Ironic. I did not vote for Mitchell's specifically because it DIDN'T sound original to me at all. Very reminiscent of his other works and subsequently the standards of slightly old-fashioned VG music. CA, you had some nice counterpoint going on and the piece was complex and all, but some of it felt very forced and it just didn't come off as having much depth and originality to it. Almost identical comments for Alex's piece, only even more so than for CA's. Schubes, therefore, got my vote; his work was the most cohesive and pleasing to listen to from the lot. Reminded me a lot of a traditional hymn and had some very interesting and tasteful harmonies. Would sound very good in a live performance. Good luck, gentlemen :)
Guest CreationArtist Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Too bad he edited it after the deadline :)
Marius Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 *shrugs* That's your problem and his; I'm just giving my opinion on the pieces.
Guest CreationArtist Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 How much longer is the poll going to be open?
Guest CreationArtist Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 One week from the day the poll was made, or one week from right now? Lol, the poll was made yesterday :)
Marius Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Okay, I'm sort of lost here...this is YOUR thread, why are YOU the one asking questions? :)
Guest CreationArtist Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 I'm polling for the poll end date? Do you want a poll on whether I should be doing that or not? :)
