Monkeysinfezzes Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Hello again, I've recently composed a piece for choir, and the competition I'm entering in also requires a keyboard reduction. I've been imputting it in directly note per note on Sibelius, because that's how I work better, and the arranging "plugin" that instantly can do it for you creates fairly messy results that I otherwise run the risk of skipping my eye over. Anyway, I have a few questions concerning keyboard reduction: 1) should I include text for each voice in the reduction? Because, if the text is already in all four voices and the reduction is just an aid for the pianist and choir, is it really necessary? 2)how do I go about with all four voices on two staves? As I've been doing, I just directly rewrote Soprano and Alto in the upper stave as two seperate voices, with several wacky voice crossings, and the same for Tenor and Bass. Am I going it the right way? Thanks guys! Quote
Guest QcCowboy Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Generally you can supply a score that has the a cappela vocal part on normal sized staves, and below that, a "piano reduction for rehearsal only" in a smaller staff size (like 75%). Normally, soprano and alto on the upper staff, tenor and bass on the lower. No, do NOT include lyrics in the piano part. I'm posting a brief sample from a score. It's for men's chorus and piano, but the idea is the same. In this particular case, the piano part at that spot is "for rehearsal only". So the staff for the piano is normal sized while the notes are smaller. However, since your piece is a capella you can make the rehearsal piano part smaller, both staff and notes. I am certain the competition does not mean for you to include a score that reduces the vocal score to piano only. I'm positive they want a vocal score WITH the piano reduction included. I have never seen a vocal score reduced to a piano part other than as I've described. Quote
