Saulsmusic Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 What you guys think of this young composer? 'Bluejay' Spreads His Wings, How A Young Musical Genius Scored A Major Recording Deal - CBS News Quote
robinjessome Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I think: good for him. I hope he enjoys the attention, because it'll soon evaporate. Too often and too early, promising youngsters are thrust into the limelight - hailed as prodigies and saviors of modern music. The problem is, they're not given enough time develop as an artist. There's no possible way this kid has developed a creative and individual voice - and he likely won't develop, until (if) the attention dies down. "[possibly] the greatest musical genius to come along in 200 years." Gimme a break. Ask me in 25 years if anyone remembers that random 'bluejay' kid who was one of the greatest geniuses of modern music. Quote

CaltechViolist Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I think Nico was running into some of the same growing pains when he was posting here... he was getting right to the end of the years when he could get credit for being "good for his age", and entering the stage where he needed to be "good, period". That's one of the hardest transitions to make. And I'm glad I started composing far too late to ever have any chance of facing that transition. Quote
clarinetcola Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 what about Bb major or perhaps an E minor? Quote
Saulsmusic Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 what about Bb major or perhaps an E minor? care to explain please ? Quote
clarinetcola Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 it was just a joke... the "A Major" in the title caught my eyes. ---- these extraordinary talents usually fade away as adulthood approaches, sadly. Quote
nikolas Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Perhaps it's because they don't push themselves into publicity, something I commend young composers about - develop, don't push yourself into publicity when you think you're the best prodigy in the world. Exactly! I agree (As always with Robin), and miraculously with Saul as well :) I can only find it sad that a 16-18 year old goes into all that fame! Of course, Jay is getting at an older age where he can handle things better (be careful of Michale Jackson, Jay!!!!) but still, This has been going on for 3 years now! Which is SAD, SAD, SAD! (Isn't it the one that has Adler at his side?) Anyways, let's hope that the right parenting, and right mind will keep him safe and sane... Nikolas Quote

Will Kirk Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Then how can you compose music? By using his mind, something you lack. By the way, this guys got nothing on Mozart, Mozart had 6 symphonies by the time he was 6. :) I really hope he uses his talent and doesn't waste it Quote
robinjessome Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 I really hope he uses his talent and doesn't waste it He's obviously using his talent, and no one's disputing the fact that he is, indeed, talented. My problem is with the fact that he and his talent havn't had the time, guidance or utter failures it takes to develop into a fully mature musical mind. ... Quote

nikolas Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Then how can you compose music? In all honesty at some point I will get tired of you... No way you will put me in such a debate, especially with you. Jay is talented, no doubt about that. Does talent grows with time? Do abilities grow with time? Will a 30 year old Jay, be better than QCC? or hymnspace? OR the nightfly, or whoever else really? That is the only question for me, nothing else! Quote
