MP3s

Featured Replies

There should be an mp3 uploader, I can only make mp3s and wav files not midi files. YC should have that...Thanks:D

The problem is, mp3s are HUGE. It'd likely be a massive drain on YC's bandwidth and resources.

There's numerous other file hosting sites out there, many with internal mp3-players and whatnot....Thanks:D

How about wav files?

If you want to pay for the massive increase in bandwith that would cause, I'm sure the administration would implement the feature in a heartbeat.

However, seeing as this issue has already been raised multiple times before, I doubt that you'll have much success re-opening it.

Since you're probably a little fresh to have been around for the previous discussions on the topic, basically the issue is that allowing members to host Mp3s would mean that the site would require a lot more allowable bandwidth to allow for the dramatic increase in data being transferred around.

That, in turn, makes keeping the site active a lot more expensive. Subsequently, unless we start getting regular large donations from members, it's not likely going to happen.

My suggestion is that you use Soundclick or Esnips or some similar site to host your Mp3s and then just link to them in your threads.

:)

How about wav files?

You might want to learn a little bit about audio. WAV is uncompressed audio - the raw stuff. It therefore has the largest possible file size. Mp3s are much smaller than WAVs because they're compressed audio files, with lower sound quality.

Is there any Midi websites I can create them with?

You're going to have to explain that a bit because it made no sense. What's a "midi website" ? And what would you want to create using one? :)

Sorry, A website where there is midis, and where you can make them...Upload mp3s and covert them.:)...better?

Why not just upload your mp3s to any of the plethora of hosting sites out there?

Here, I'll do some legwork for you:

5GB of free space to upload and share your files, photos, videos and music - eSnips.com

I know Marius uses this one; free hosting, internal audio players. Ta daa. Problem solved.

Somewhat better; so you want a website with MIDIs available for download and then you want to be able to upload your Mp3s and have the site convert them to MIDI?

Converting MIDI to Mp3 isn't possible, to begin with. MIDI is like a programming language for sound cards; there's no actual sound data contained in a MIDI file, that's why they're so small.

There are programs which claim to convert by trying to interpret audio data according to pitch and rhythm and convert into MIDI, but in my experience they're absolutely terrible at it.

So to answer your question, no.

Thanks to both of you.
