Mike Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Originally requested here: http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/pushing-limits-6333-2.html#post96403 This feature allows users to keep a note of threads or posts which are of interest to them. To bookmark a thread: in the thread view, click the Thread Tools menu and choose "Bookmark this Thread". You will be taken to a screen that confirms the addition, along with providing the option of either jumping back to the thread or viewing your list of bookmarks. You will notice on returning to the thread that the "Bookmark this Thread" menu entry has changed to "Un-bookmark this Thread", along with the bookmark icon turning grey. This will remain the case until such time as you remove the thread from your list of bookmarks, which can be done by clicking "Un-bookmark this Thread", or via your bookmarks list (User CP in top-left hand corner, List Bookmarks on left-hand menu). To bookmark a post: click the green bookmark icon that appears above and to the right of the post. As with bookmarking a thread, you will be taken to a new screen confirming that the addition was successful. Again, the icon will turn grey, and will remain that way as long as the post resides in your bookmarks. The bookmark list displays all of your current bookmarks. It also allows you to search through your bookmarks, and to delete ones which you no longer want. Last thing: if you click Quick Links in the navbar and choose "My Bookmarks", a list will be displayed of the threads you have bookmarked in order of last to receive a reply. This is extremely useful for keeping track of threads you wish to stay up to date on. Each user has space for up to 100 individual bookmarks. Right, that was pretty long-winded but I figured I'd spell it out in case there were any misconceptions. Any problems or oddities, let me know. Quote
bob_the_sane Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Nice one, cool new feature. *wanders off to bookmark some threads* Quote
bob stole my cookie Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 On the topic of features... For us people so addicted to the forum that we try to access it from our cell phones, is there a minimal content version or a text version (such as for text only browsers)? Quote
Mike Posted July 4, 2007 Author Posted July 4, 2007 Full of ideas, aren't you? vBulletin does come with an archive feature (not the old posts archive, but a cut-down version of pages), but we have it disabled for search engine optimization reasons. So no joy there... If there was widespread demand for it then we might be persuaded to come up with something. Quote
Guest Anders Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I've also tried to access it from my cell. It worked fine untill we switched to VB.. Quote
Mike Posted July 4, 2007 Author Posted July 4, 2007 Alright guys, try this: http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/lofi/ Tell me if it works on your mobiles. Or "cells", if you're American. Personally, mine refuses to download anything beyond about 15KB from the web, but it is a fairly old model. Quote
Daniel Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I've been on here on my mobile before, but it was extremely awkward. When I get some credit, I'll try that new lo-fi version. Btw, kudos on the nice job with the bookmarks, Mike! Very useful. Quote
bob stole my cookie Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Ok, a few comments about the lofi version... (EDIT: Yeah, when viewed through a cell phone. Will try text-based browser later....) It seems to display the threads in each topic in chronological order of creation date, making it a little awkward to find things. It also displays (or trys to) 50 results per page I think... I couldn't open Off topic so I picked a smaller forum (Jazz, Band, Pop/Rock) and it opened but showed all threads on 2 pages. Maybe it does 150 per page :). Either way, all results were on 2 pages and were numbered 1-99, restarting at 0 after that. And there's no way to download attachments... though on second thought, that may be unnecessary  Also, there's no need to log in... maybe that's why I couldn't view off topic ;) Over all though, EDIT: ok, so it's 250 results per page... but I guess no way to post in lo-fi Quote
Mike Posted July 5, 2007 Author Posted July 5, 2007 Yeah, the lo-fi version is somewhat limited. Actually, that may be a serious understatement. Its main purpose is to aid search engine spiders in mapping out the site. They like small, link-laden pages. Doing a proper cell phone version would entail a lot of work, and I wouldn't expend the necessary effort unless I knew it would be a popular option. Feel free to start a poll, protest, revolution etc. Quote
