Franzman Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 The entirety of A Kind of Blue. QFT.. Quote
Saiming Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Why? Because they suck, it is so simple. I like Bill Evans, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, followed by: CCR [Creedence Clearwater Revival], Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, a few songs from Nirvana Quote
Mark Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 QFT.. "QFT", internet slang meaning "quoted for truth". This term applies on forums and posting boards where users can edit their posts, thus the QFT holds the poster to their original statement. It is also used to express agreement with a previous poster's statement and validate its veracity. ? Quote
Franzman Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 well, duh.. ^^ I agreed with "Kind of Blue" being one of my favorite non-classical pieces too. Quote

Berlioz Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I forgot to add "Mongo Jerry: In the Summertime.", it's there now. :D EDIT: "America: A Horse With No Name" and "Benny Goodman: Sing, Sing, Sing" added too. :P Quote
Berlioz Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Some of their music is really medieval-sounding, and I like their voices, so there. ^^ Quote
Ljoekelsoey Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 slipknot, muse, radiohead, santana, basement jaxx......far too much too write; far too little time Quote
Flint Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I'll listen to just about anything, except distorted heavy metal or ©rap. When I'm at work, my mp3 player plays classical music (ca. 1850 or younger), jazz (big band) music, and sometimes pop music from the late 70's-90's. When I'm driving, my mp3 player plays musical theatre soundtracks (well, duh, after doing so many shows, they grow on you). When I'm at home and not working on composing, my mp3 player plays vocal jazz music (Manhattan Transfer, the Real Group, etc.) and Ultra Lounge. When I'm composing, silence. I like the B-52's and Barenaked Ladies. (among others) Favorite composers: Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, John Williams, Ferde Grofe, George Gershwin, Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, Richard Strauss. Quote
Saiming Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Btw, I love Lordi... ... NAAAAT!!! :w00t:  Quote
WaxyD Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I could listen to anything by John Scofield or Brad Mehldau. One of my favorite bands is Kneebody (kneebody!). They are not very well known but they consist of some of the best musicians I have ever heard from LA. Check them out. You can find some videos on youtube as well. Quote
Guest Anders Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Not to say that all non-classical music is ''pop'' music, but I find listening to ''pop'' music makes my ear lazy. In fact, I've even started to consciously avoid it. When I want to relax, I just tune in to some jazz () or put on a brief classical piece. I hate the term ''classical music'', by the way. Which brings me to... ... What the f*ck does the OP (Nigel) mean by ''non-classical''? I just realized I have no idea. :D Is Steve Reich ''non-classical''? If so, I list him. If not... well then, bite me! Quote
robinjessome Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 ... What the f*ck does the OP (Nigel) mean by ''non-classical''? I just realized I have no idea. :D Good point. I assume he means anything not found in the 'classical' section at HMV. Soooo...could be anything from Beethoven to Stravinsky, or Glass to Stockhausen, to frigging Andr Quote
Guest QcCowboy Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 well, he asked for a favourite "piece" as well.. not favourite genre, or composer... ONE of mine would be Sound of Wind, from the Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles soundtrack. Quote
kievins Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Anything by 'face to face' - piano and gloch. jazz duets. Quote
