  1. Hello! Here is my newest composition. I wanted to try a very different approach than what I normally do in my composing process. I made a sketch of material and let two saxophonists play this material in very free ways. When they submitted their recordings the actual composing started with very static material since I cannot change the recorded material that much. It was an exercise in structure and arch building, but I also see it as a proper composition. I want to create an additive film to accompany the composition. Do you have any ideas for themes, scenes? I would love to hear your comments! 2 [Echt] Saxophone duo.mp3 - Maarten Bauer
  2. Hi y'all! A while ago I discovered "Paulstretch", a tool in my free audio editor (Audacity) that slows audio and creates some really cool sounds. After much ado and fussing around I have refined my skills with the tool and focused on using it in my most recent composition for the summer composition challenge. I made a introductory video demo of what the tool is and how I use it. I'd love some feedback about whether this is any good or ways I could use it more effectively!! Thanks and happy listening/watching. Gustav
  3. Howdy y'all! (Seemed an appropriate salutation given the title.... ahem.) Audacity is a free sound editing platform. It's VERY basic, just allowing for pitch change/time change, cutting/pasting, basic effects (reverb, delay, distortion, etc.), and generating static sin/saw/square tones and the like. I can't input pitches of a given sound as with most DAW's. I found a tool that allows me to input numbers and it returns the corresponding dial "beep" a-la telephone. I generated some saw tones and worked them into a bassline, then put some electric guitar on top - using only my built in microphone (don't own an external mic). The introduction is a tone I pitch shifted up with reverb I pitch shifted back down. I'm enjoying doing this kind of thing, it allows for a lot of freedom. Let me know thoughts about any part of it! Thanks, Gustav Johnson
