  1. The beauty of music is that it brings people together. From all over the world! It’s an universal language to which we all can connect. A couple of months ago I met macky@piano♪♪(まっきぃ) She is a wonderful pianist from Japan playing outstanding improvisations. Music that speaks to the heart and mind. I'm a big fan of her and it is a great honour to do this collaboration with her. A sweet, romantic music track within the atmosphere of Christmas. On the piano: macky@piano♪♪(まっきぃ) Arrangement, mixing and mastering: David Jansen [a.k.a. Gh0stwrit3r] I hope you enjoy it!
  2. Hello. I thought of having the community to do a collaborative project in the form of 'theme and variations'. As I was writing this, I was just aware of two similar collaborative projects, one of which happened nearly a year ago. I thought of initiating this project again after reading about the Diabelli Variations by Beethoven. I suggest reading the attached forum post to know about theme and variations. This project is open to all, whether amateur, beginner or advanced. Theme and instrumentation The theme attached is for piano, but anyone can rearrange it into a string quartet, a piano trio or any ensemble up to 8 instruments. You can make slight modifications to the actual theme if you want to, even if you are doing for piano only. (includes adding new voices, dynamics, transposing into another key etc) Other rules You are allowed to compose as many variations on the theme as you want. If you are composing three or more, try to have a fugue/fuga included. If you are rearranging it or making modifications to the initial theme, please include the modified/rearranged theme as well. You are allowed to compose in any style, but preferably not jazz or pop. Also remember to add tempo markings, dynamics and other directions if necessary. The theme attached does not have much of these so you can interpret it differently in any way you want it to. After you have completed your variation(s), post it/them into this topic. There must be a PDF file of the score and; Midi file and; MP3 file. I will like to see how different composers can develop the same material in different ways. I believe no two variations from different composers can be exactly the same. Theme.mid
  3. Hi everyone. Recently I saw an article in the YC Wiki about a set of 24 Preludes and Fugues written by different members of YC. Later, I released they were from about a decade ago, and I think we should write a new set. If anyone is interested to take part in this, signal your interest by commenting below. I will create a club which people can join and we will hopefully be able to create a full set. It would be interesting to see how people approach this, and we would post any works in the forums for critique as normal. I hope we can do this, Scott
  4. [Twitter] [Youtube] [Website] [Soundcloud] Quintessence is an upcoming music circle, and music group. We will mainly create original songs and content, however we will occasionally do covers. Quintessence will release music that can focus one, multiple, or all of our vocalists. We strive to create music that is deeper that people can relate to, but also that takes us to another world, and revolves around fantasy. Genres we will focus on include pop, folk, classical, orchestral, ambient, new age, r&b, and experimental. We will also do a lot of crossovers within genres. We take inspiration from Wave, Akiko Shikata, Kokia, Kaoling, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Jojo, Epica, and more. We are seeking people that are creative, genuine, like to experiment, and don’t like to limit themselves. Members of Quintessence are expected to commit and be active, this is a permanent group, and you will be expected to meet tight deadlines, and take an active part in insuring our success. Inability to communicate and meet deadlines, will result in potential kick from the group. All members are expected to take part in the creative process as well, and grow as individuals. It will be mandatory for vocalists to adapt themselves and learn how to sing within various genres. For vocalists, they will need to be comfortable being on camera, majority of our videos and pictures will feature the vocalists, and other staff, themselves. Those chosen will be temporarily in a trial position, to see if they work well with the current members. Values: Kindness, humility, camaraderie, compassion, authenticity, creativity, knowledge, fortitude, introspection, free thinking, bravery. Member Musts Respectful and helpful to other members. Acts professional but also approachable and genuine, we want everyone to be able to be themselves. Upholds a positive attitude and image for both themselves and the group, not just with us, but around others, and all social medias. Has a can do attitude, and is always willing to jump in and help. Is able to take constructive criticism and is introspective. Is able to work with other’s creative ideas, but can also contribute their own. Is a team player. Is willing to learn and improve, doesn’t believe they know all the answers. Open Positions Deadline: Feb 28 Audition forms below Note: All staff forms are the same, vocalists and instrumentalists have their own. Vocalists: Vocalists must submit multiple files for their audition. One must be a video of you, which includes a bit about yourself, your interests, why you want to join, two solos of your choosing that you must sing acapella (mandatory one pop, one ballad or classical), and anything else you would like us to know, the more the better. Editing of the video is not allowed. They must also include a melody sample of one of the songs in which we provide for you, you will be given an instrumental, and we would like to see what you can do with it (lyrics not necessary; lalala or others, are acceptable.) The musician, composer & music producer Goar B (https://www.unicade-music.de/goarb/?lang=en) would like to release an album as a tribute to his No.1 hit "Mambo No.5“ (Released 1999, 20th anniversary). For detailed information on the success story of Mambo No.5 visithttps://www.unicade-music.de/mambostory/?lang=en Music producer Goar B offers the chance for talented music fellows to participate on some tracks of his new album. The main task is: To compose songs / arrange tracks in Mambo style with up todate drum or sound elements. We don‘t stick strictly to Mambo. It can also be Latin style with Mamboflavor. If you're a beat-programmer, composer, arranger, singer etc. feel free to send us your ideas viae-mail (studio@unicade-music.de). It´s not necessary for the song/track to be complete. 7. Hello! You may perhaps have seen the collaboration topic for Theme and Variations on a Dutch folk song ''Sinterklaas is jarig''. Since I don't get any variations, I have decided that the piece is finished now. I want to thank all participants for their submissions, which are all great! It was fun to have so many people submit a variation, so maybe we can do more collaboration projects on the basis of simple songs. Theme: ''Sinterklaas is jarig.'' For more info, see below. I made a mistake by confusing the song ''Sinterklaas is jarig'' with ''Oh! Kom maar eens kijken.'' The latter is incorrect. Variation I. @MusicianXX12 Varation II. @Luis Hernández Variation III. @ilv Variation IV. @MusicianXX12 Variation V. @Maarten Bauer Variation VI. @Maarten Bauer Variation VII. @DirkH Variation VIII. @Aure_liano BACKGROUND INFORMATION The theme is a Dutch / Flemish Saint Nicholas (Sinterklaas) song. ''The feast of Sinterklaas celebrates the name day of Saint Nicholas on 6 December. The feast is celebrated annually with the giving of gifts on St. Nicholas' Eve (5 December) in the northern parts of the Netherlands and on the morning of 6 December, Saint Nicholas Day, in the southern provinces of the Netherlands, as well as Belgium, Luxembourg and northern France (French Flanders, Lorraine and Artois). The tradition is also celebrated in territories of the former Dutch Empire, including Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao and Suriname.'' (Wikipedia, n.d.). To practise your Dutch, here is a special episode from 2016 when Sinterklaas arrives in Maassluis. The text in this theme (there are many variations) is the following including the translation: Sinterklaas is jarig! 'k Zet mijn schoen vast klaar. Wellicht dat hij hem vol doet met, ja wist ik het maar. Hier zet ik wat water en wat hooi voor 't paard, want dat trouwe beestje is het heus wel waard. It's Sinterklaas' birthday. I'm putting my shoe down already. I hope that he will fit it with, if I only knew... Here I put some water there some hay for the horse, because that faithful animal is really worth it. 8. Hello everybody, It sounds very interesting to me when we have a collaboration project in the form of Theme and Variations. For the ones who don't know what this form is: you compose one or more variations on a stated theme. A clear example is Mozart's Dodici variazioni su 'Ah, vous dirai-je Maman': How does it work? You can compose as many variations on the given theme as you want. There are a few rules / points: Only write for the string quartet (1st violin, 2nd violin, viola, violoncello). Not all variations have to contain all instruments, so you can also compose a variation for string trio (violin, viola, violoncello) or a solo passage. Make sure that the theme is recognizable or at least fragments of it. Every style is accepted: contemporary, classical, Pop, Jazz, minimal etc. Variations may not be longer than 2 minutes. When you have finished a variation, please post it in this topic with the following files. This namely saves a lot time for me to edit the final version. PDF file of the score and; Midi file and; MP3 file. You can be as creative as you want! Theme ''Oh! Kom maar eens kijken!'' Oh! Kom maar eens kijken!.pdf Oh! Kom maar eens kijken!.mp3 Oh! Kom maar eens kijken!.mid If you are interested and want to compose a variation, please sign in for this project by answering yes in the poll above. Good luck! Participants: ----------------------
  9. I was randomly bored, and an idea came out of nowhere to my mind. A collaboration of multi-genres! The idea is, every composer taking part will create a small composition that fits with the theme of the full composition. The combination of different genres might not always sound like a decent idea, but it can work. And with the skills of the composers in this forum it can work very well.. but we encounter an issue which is the difference of tools used.. Therefore, lots of mixing and editing will have to go into this (I can do that, unless anyone feels they're more capable.. I'm not the best at it), it won't be an easy project unless we want some crappy result. Based on the number of participants the segments will be divided. Also the full length of the composition will be voted on once there's a decent number of participants of about 4 or more. So basically, I'll have to start the composition, giving a general idea on the theme to be followed, for example.. grief.. victory.. relief.. misery.. etc... But before that, what are you opinions of this idea? Participants @Maarten Bauer @Monarcheon @ilv
  10. Hello, composers! The site has been kind of weak lately without the exciting competitions, so I plan to make this new one. In this competition, each composer will be paired with another composer, and each will submit a composition(pdf and audio) to the other privately. I recommend something easy and small! Your partner will review the piece(do so nicely, please!) and give feedback. After editing your piece, submit here, and I will decide which composition "team" had the best works, in my opinion. If it is for piano, I might try recording, but likely not. Guidelines: Work must be between 1-5 minutes. Keeping it short! Send partner PDF of score and audio. Does not have to be live recording DUE: Pending, likely in April Be nice in your feedback. Have fun! Partners: 1) Christian Perrotta--_______ 2) _______--_______ 3) _______--_______ 4) _______--_______ 5) _______--_______ I really hope this might be exciting and easy for all. Just wanted something exciting on the forums.
  11. Hello fellow young composers! We're three young composers based in Sydney, Australia organising an exciting project - an opportunity for composers to come together and create a new, collaborative work "in 4." inspired by Terry Riley's "in C.". This work will be performed a fantastic collective of musicians in Sydney, Australia. We have already received many submissions from all around the world and would love more composers to be a part of this project. In order to create this work, we're asking you to submit ONE cell of written music that creatively and appropriately reflects the number "4". There is no limit to how and what you notate, however, if conventional notation is used it must be written in the treble staff. The cell must be written for an "open ensemble" (see below for FAQ). The submitted cells will then be curated by our team into a new, collaborative work - to be performed by a quartet of quartets. Send your submission to info@themusicboxproject.com (.pdf and any image file types will be accepted) with the subject "in 4 submission" and include your name. A confirmation email will be sent upon submission. FAQ What exactly are you planning to do with my cell of music? In the same vein as Terry Riley's in C., we hope to arrange the submitted cells into a single work. This process of organising and arranging the material into a cohesive work will be completed by a team of Sydney based composers. If we receive 53 submissions we have the chance of creating a record breaking, collaborative composition. What is an open ensemble? The idea of "open instrumentation" or an "open ensemble" means that you have to consider that your cell will be performed (with limited modification) by any/combination of instruments. Cells which work most effectively in this way will more likely be chosen. MORE INFORMATION: http://www.themusicboxproject.com/project-in-4 Thanks the music box project. team
