This is the 10th year for MusicTeacherGifts.com (aka ViolettesbyBecky), my little company, to hold a youth composition competition. Our amazing volunteer judges this year are Daniel Felsenfeld, Jennifer Jolley, Soomin Kim, Maestro Lucas Richman, Giovanni Piacentini and Schwendinger. They will provide feedback to all students and select winners. Read about them at the link provided below - remember to scroll down.) There will be 3 age groups 10 – 14, 15-16 and 17-18 (on Feb. 14, 2023). Register now, and send composition recording and score PDF by Feb. 14, 2023. (The age divisions are based on previous year entries. If age ranges are significantly different, I may adjust the age divisions or even add a division.) Ninth Plant New Music is excited to announce the 35th annual Suzanne and Lee Ettelson Composer’s Award. An award of $1,000 will be given for a new chamber work. The winning work will be performed in the San Francisco Bay Area during Ninth Planet's 2020-21 concert season. Works not awarded prizes will also be considered for programming. This award is excellent for young and emerging composers! Past winners have included now prolific composers such as Mason Bates, Jennifer Higdon, and David Lang. Performers shall be drawn from the core instrumentation of the ensemble Ninth Planet (one player each): flute/piccolo/alto flute clarinet/bass clarinet trombone electric guitar piano violin cello double bass Scoring may include one or two instruments not listed above, including voice(s) and electronics, but must include at least one member of the core instrumentation. There is no limit to piece length. Entry deadline is Jan. 19, 2020.

Saw this and thought I'd give it a post here in case anyone is interested. (: Announcing the 2014 Eighth Annual International Anthem Competition of the First Baptist Church of Worcester, Massachusetts. Scoring for SATB choir with flute and organ accompaniment for a prize of $1550.00 US funds. Complete guidelines are found at http://fbc-worc.org. First performance will be in 10:00 AM worship on May 4, 2014 with Chancel Choir, flute, and organ under the direction of William Ness. Winner announced in March 2014.
